VERSAILLES, Ky. (AP) - Authorities are investigating the discovery of a dead body in central Kentucky but details are scarce.

Versailles police spokesman Pat Melton said an autopsy would be performed Friday in Frankfort by the state medical examiner's office.

The Lexington Herald-Leader reported the body was found wrapped in a tarpaulin near the Kentucky River, a half-dozen miles south of Versailles.

Versailles Assistant Police Chief Mike Murray said it wasn't clear how long the body had been there.

Police released little information, withholding the gender of the person whose body was found and not saying who the person was.
