DNA Evidence Helps Make Arrest In Cold Case

Posted:

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - A mother of three boys was murdered in front of her own children 17 years ago. Police announced an arrest in the cold case murder of Susan Dumore.

Retired policeman Jerry Wells can not shake the murder at Bryant Way apartments.

"An arrest has finally been made in this cold case," said Wells. "There are always cases that stick with you."

Wells was a shift commander at the time, and was one of the first responders Thanksgiving weekend in 1992.

"It was a very brutal murder," said Wells. "The children found the body in this particular case."

The 34-year-old single mother of three boys, was murdered inside her Bowling Green, Kentucky, apartment in unit S6.

Bowling green police said DNA evidence points to 41-year-old Edward David Donaldson of Mammoth Cave, Kentucky.

Donaldson was said to be a blue collar worker and father of three. His fiancĂ©e said he was not the killer.

Science is helping investigators gain new ground - even in murders as old as this one.

"Hopefully through technology that wasn't available back in 1992, we can solve more cases," said Bowling Green police officer Barry Pruitt.

Police will not say the relationship between the victim Susan Dumore and the suspect David Donaldson.

Dumore's three sons have reportedly moved to Detroit, with their biological father.
