Bonnaroo Begins and I-24 Traffic Starts Backing Up

Posted:

MANCHESTER, Tenn. - The huge Bonnaroo festival has gotten underway Thursday in Manchester, which means major traffic down Interstate 24.

Gates opened Thursday at 7 a.m., and fans started pouring into Coffee County way before that. Many Bonnaroo attendees got together for a big party in the local Wal-Mart parking lot Wednesday night.

All together more than 80,000 people from all over the country are expected to attend the festival.

NewsChannel 5 talked with one guy who came all the way from New York.

"There are definitely some locals who have grown accustomed to seeing this scene once a year. All the Wal-Mart staff have tie dye shirts on, so that's pretty cool I guess," the fan said.

Thursday fans will get to see Janelle Monae and Passion Pit. Friday acts will include Phish, the Beastie Boys and Al Green.
