NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Tennessee Department of Transportation said that all westbound lanes on Interstate 40 were shutdown at 9 p.m. Tuesday and re-opened by 3 a.m. Wednesday.
According to TDOT, the lanes were closed while two cranes attempted to remove cargo that weighs 140,000 pounds from underneath the Elm Hill Overpass.
Tuesday night traffic was being diverted off the interstate at Old Hickory Boulevard, but Wednesday morning all lanes were back open.
Monday afternoon around 1 p.m. just before exit 216, a tractor trailer truck did not clear the Elm Hill Overpass. TDOT was able to remove the actual truck, but the load broke in half.
Tuesday one lane of I-40 remained closed. Click Here to view a live picture of a potential back-up.
