Police Say Sahel Kazemi Killed Steve McNair

An initial lab report seems to confirm the theory that Sahel Kazemi shot Steve McNair to death before turning the gun on herself.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Metro Police Chief Ronal Serpas says Sahel Kazemi shot and killed former Titans quarterback Steve McNair and then turned the gun on herself.

"Over the last 5 to 7 days of Kazemi's life our investigation is learning that she had become very distraught and on two occasions told friends and associates that her life was all messed up and that she was going to end it all," said Serpas.

Ballistics tests done at the TBI's crime lab indicate that bullets recovered from both bodies came from the handgun found under Kazemi's body. It was the same gun that investigators have said she purchased Thursday from an unidentified individual around 5 p.m. on Thursday in the Dave and Buster's parking lot.

NewsChannel 5 has also learned that gun powder residue tests also seem to confirm the murder-suicide theory after finding trace evidence on Kazemi's left hand. Hear and see first hand accounts of what the inside of McNair's townhouse looked like before and after the murder-suicide.

There was not gun shot residue on McNair's hands.

"We may never know exactly what drove Ms. Kazemi to make that decision," said Serpas. "We do believe there's evidence that she was spinning out of control."

Police also said Kazemi suspected that McNair was involved with another woman and that her relationship with him was unraveling. She was also making payments on her car, the Escalade and had just learned her roommate was going to move out.

Police believe McNair was sitting on the sofa asleep when Kazemi shot him in the right temple then twice in the chest and then final time in the left temple. There was no sign of a struggle by McNair causing police to believe he did not know he was being shot.

It is not clear whether investigators have received a final report from the TBI, but police had pinned a final determination on the findings from the crime lab. Watch surveillance video gathered by NewsChannel 5 Investigates that seems to support the TBI's conclusion.
