Defense Wants Evidence Dismissed In Killings Case

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Monday brought new developments in the case of a Rutherford County sheriff's detective accused of hitting and killing an 11-year-old girl. Defense attorneys asked that crucial evidence be dismissed.

Sgt. Ron Killings' trial has been set in October on charges of reckless homicide, tampering with evidence and filing a false report in the July 2008 death of Lakeisha White.

Killings' attorneys filed motions to dismiss two bottles of alcohol collected at the scene as well as to try each count separately and bring in a jury from a different county.

Next motion hearing for Killings is scheduled for September 4.
