Rescuers, Deputies Uncover Puppy Mill In Dickson County

Posted:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - More than 50 dogs and 15 cats were found living in inhumane conditions in Dickson County. Many were without clean water and others had skin diseases and infections.

Investigators said all the animals were being cared for by a single woman, and that she was breeding the dogs several litters at a time.

The Humane Society of the United States was leading the rescue effort. The animals were taken to a safe shelter Monday after receiving medical attention.

The dogs and cats will be put up for adoption across the country.

"It's great you know they will go and live as part of a family. They won't be outside living in a kennel in the mud. They'll be apart of a family and they'll be a pet and a companion the way they should be," said Leighann McCollum, HSUS.

There were also 27 horses found at the home. Investigators were tipped off on the puppy mill by someone who had purchased an animal at the home.

No charges have been filed against the woman yet.
