MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - In court a judge decided former Rutherford County sheriff's detective Ron Killings will face separate trials for each offense. He's charged in the death of an 11-year-old girl.
Ron Killings was in criminal court Thursday morning. He's charged with reckless homicide, tampering with evidence and giving a false statement to police.
Police said Killings hit and killed Lakeisha White last year on Bradyville Pike in Murfreesboro. After the crash, neighbors said they saw Killings dispose of a bottle of liquor. A blood test found Killings was not drunk at the time of the incident.
A crash investigator testified there was a eyewitness who said she saw Lakeisha in the middle of the road moments before Killings hit her.
The judge said despite pretrial publicity he hopes to get a Rutherford County jury. The reckless homicide trial is set for October 13.
