(AP) KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Lane Kiffin has promised a lot of things in his nine months as Tennessee's coach, including a win over top-ranked Florida.
One thing he won't promise is if his Volunteers are good enough to beat 30-point underdog and Football Bowl Subdivision newcomer Western Kentucky in their season opener Saturday.
All eyes have been on Tennessee since the former Oakland Raiders coach and Southern California assistant replaced Phillip Fulmer on Dec. 1. Now it's time for Kiffin to back up those promises.
The Hilltoppers are making their debut as the Sun Belt Conference's newest member and the 120th team in the FBS. They're no strangers to playing on the road against an SEC opponent.
Saturday will be the sixth time in the past seven years they've done it.
