ANTIOCH, Tenn. - Police believe robbery was the motive behind a deadly shooting in Antioch overnight.
Just before midnight Thursday, a masked robber tried to steal from a man attending a friend's Titans party at a home on Old Hickory Boulevard, which is just off Burkitt Road. The resident of the home noticed the commotion, grabbed his gun and went outside to protect his friend. Police said several shots were fired, and the resident was killed.
The intended robbery victim was unharmed, and the suspect fled the scene.
Air One and canine units searched for the suspect but were not able to find him. Police said they believe he fled the scene in a vehicle and is still on the run.
Police also said they believe the attempted robbery was not random due to the seclusion of the home. The victim's friends, who witnessed the crime, disagree.
