Manufacturing Plant Lays Off More than Half its Workers

MT. PLEASANT, Tenn.- In the Maury County town of Mt. Pleasant a paper manufacturing plant has started the process of closing its doors and laying people off.

ITW Shippers told labor officials they laid off 33 out of a total of 53 employees last Friday. Some workers were given the chance to relocate to another facility in Sheridan, Arkansas. 

The state labor department has set up teams in Columbia to help employees with the transition.

In Putnam County, 140 people are getting laid off. Cummins Filtration is laying off more than 100 hundred people who work on the filtration assembly line. Right now, 700 people work there.
