GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) - Florida coach Urban Meyer says Lane Kiffin's false accusations in February were surprising because of Meyer's relationship with Kiffin's father, former Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin.
Other than a brief acknowledgment in March that Lane Kiffin's words fired him up, Meyer has declined comment on what will be a huge story line this week as No. 1 Florida and Tennessee prepare to play in Gainesville.
Following Florida's 56-6 victory over Troy on Saturday, Meyer told his players not to talk about Tennessee's first-year coach or what he said earlier this year.
Meyer shed some light on his feelings about the situation Sunday. He said he was "fairly close" with Monte Kiffin, which made Lane Kiffin's comments that much more surprising.
