Both Sides React To Alcohol Vote In Trigg County

Posted:

CADIZ, Ky. - A day after voters in Trigg County, Kentucky overturned prohibition, supporters on both sides of the issue looked back on their hard fought fight.

The group, Grow Trigg, had a bonfire to celebrate its 36 vote victory that will allow alcohol sales in the county for the first time in 86 years.

"We're celebrating that we won by 36 votes, and that we're now going to be a wet county," said Kathy Tessier, Grow Trigg.

The first drink could be served within the next 60 t0 90 days.

Those who opposed Trigg becoming a wet county were disappointed with the final vote.

"My opinion is that those that were for it most of them voted, but we didn't do that well getting other opposed to it to vote," said Archie Brock, Trigg Citizens against Alcohol. "It may take a little time to settle down again, but we're still a close knit community."

Everyone involved agrees is time to move forward.

"I sent a message to the leader of the opposition because I wanted to meet with him and say, ‘what can we do to mend fences?'" said Ken Culwell, Grow Trigg.

County leaders still have to come up with laws that will govern alcohol sales and the amount of tax they'll collect on the beverages.

Trigg Citizens against Alcohol said they no do not plan to challenge the vote.
