Ash Spill Clean Up Moving Faster than Expected

KINGSTON, Tenn.- The TVA is shipping coal ash from a huge spill in Tennessee to a landfill in Alabama faster than planned.

An increase in dredging operations at the Emory River near Kingston has allowed TVA to increase shipments.

The utility had estimated sending 85 rail cars per day with the coal ash, but now that number has increased to 110 per day. About 5.4 million cubic yards of coal ash spilled out of a holding pond at their Kingston Fossil Plant back in December.

TVA hopes to have the mess cleaned up by spring.
