New Claim That McNair Was Father To Mississippi Girl

Posted:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Another woman steps forward claiming she gave birth to a child of Steve McNair's. The woman filed legal papers Friday afternoon to lay claim to her daughter's portion of the estate.

Paternity tests are being done. If the child is McNair's, she could be entitled to a piece of the financial pie and back child support.

Court documents filed in Nashville by attorney Helen Rogers identify Clover Lee as the woman claiming to be the mother of Steve McNair's daughter.

The child, whose age and name we do not know, is said to be living in McNair's native Mississippi with her mother.

The former quarterback's estate, valued at $19.6 million, is still being divvied. The current formula looks like: 40 percent to McNair's widow, Mechelle McNair; the remaining 60 percent to be split by his four surviving sons.

The addition of a McNair daughter to the mix would mean the four boys get leaner fortunes. Mechelle's piece of the pie would not change.

Mechelle McNair's attorney, Rose Palermo, of Nashville, is not commenting on the new claim of another child. Mechelle mothered McNair's two younger sons.

The Mississippi attorney, representing Clover Lee, is confident paternity tests will prove Steve McNair is the father of the little girl.

A gridiron great, the quarterback obviously had a following off the field, and a personal life, some said, resembled a soap opera.

McNair's 20-year-old lover, Sahel Kazemi, is the one who shot and killed McNair the morning of July 4, then killed herself.

Mississippi attorney David Pitre was not willing to talk about McNair's child support payments. The petition did asks for back due support.

Steve McNair did not have a will which could mean there's some built-in wiggle room.

Statement from Mississippi attorney David Pitre:
On behalf of my client, today we have filed a claim for paternity and heirship in the Steven L. McNair estate actions which have been previously opened in both Tennessee and Mississippi. We expect that questions of paternity and heirship will soon be conclusively answered by DNA testing which is currently being conducted. The pleadings filed are self-explanatory, and out of concern for the privacy and well-being of my minor child client, as well as the McNair family, we will have no further comment on the matter. We request that the media and other interested parties respect our client's privacy and refrain from contacting her or her family.
