KINGSTON, Tenn. (AP) - A grand jury in Kingston has declined to indict a Roane County man in the shooting of his pregnant wife. The shotgun blast killed the couple's unborn baby.
The case was presented to grand jurors who on Tuesday returned a no-true bill, meaning there will be no criminal charges against Justin Stone, reported The Knoxville News Sentinel.
The 24-year-old Stone said he laid a 12-gauge shotgun on his kitchen table on Sept. 4 and it discharged, striking 26-year-old Jennifer Stone, who was in the hallway of the couple's mobile home.
The weapon was loaded with No. 8 birdshot.
District Attorney General Russell Johnson said the fetus could have lived outside the womb.
