Ways To Save Money If Planning Holiday Trip

Posted:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - More people are planning holiday trips, but it is recommended families book a holiday trip six months to a year in advance to find the best deals.

This year many are making the decision to travel at the last minute, which means getting the most out of the vacation dollar will take some digging.

At Sailair Travel in West Nashville, travel agent Dorothy Faggello and her colleagues are wheeling, but the last minute deals over Christmas and New Years are hard to come by.

"They're still traveling, but they're not, they're not booking as far in advance," said Faggello.

The day after Christmas a family of four can take seven night Caribbean cruise on Carnival's Liberty liner for $5,200. A similar trip, also seven nights, on the Royal Caribbean's Oasis of the Seas will cost $12,500.

"It's too late to get the best pricing, but there's still some things available," said Faggello.

At Disney World, seven nights at the Caribbean Beach resort with park passes and Disney dining will cost a family of four, $4,000.

Faggello said all inclusive resorts are reasonable. A family of four can spend seven nights in Cancun for $4,000. With all the holiday travel options there is one catch.

"The problem is getting the air to get there, and the airfares over Christmas are high," said Faggello.

Those who have had a tropical Christmas give it the green light.

"It was wonderful. It was perfect, so I recommend it," traveler Amy Warden.

The trips NewsChannel 5 priced were during the week of Christmas. If you decide to move your winter vacation forward or back a couple weeks you could save a great deal.

The travel agent suggested making reservations sooner rather than waiting.

Travel experts also recommend getting a passport. It can take as long as six-weeks to receive your passport after completing the application.
