WHITWELL, Tenn. (AP) - Investigators who discovered the body of a Marion County woman beaten with a baseball bat and stabbed said they found her children unharmed, sleeping in another room.
Detective Chad Johnson said no warrant has been issued but Michael Shirley, the victim's boyfriend, is being sought as a "person of interest" in the Monday night slaying near Whitwell.
The victim has been identifed as 27-year-old Brandi Dawn Duba.
Johnson said dispatchers first received a call about a car burning about a mile from the home. The car belonged to Duba.
Minutes later, a neighbor arriving home from work noticed the front door of the victim's home was open and called police.
Duba's two young children were asleep in the living room and her body was on a bedroom floor.
