NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Police said the victims of a fire bombing in West Nashville were not the intended targets. They need help finding the person responsible for the crime.
It was 9:45 p.m. on August 7. Lamar Throneberry and Mamie Roberts were inside their home on Morrow Road.
"We weren't in bed just yet. My husband had gone to bed and had the news on the TV. I was in the bathroom brushing my teeth, and I heard a blast and some glass breaking," said Roberts.
Police said someone tried to throw a Molotov cocktail through the front window, but the bottle bounced off the glass. It broke and ignited the porch.
"I said 'get up quick - something's happened!' We ran to the front of the house and it was all engulfed in flames, and it's needless to tell you we were scared to death," said Roberts.
"Police had told us we weren't the targets, that they got the wrong house. They were after someone else," said Throneberry.
Police have a suspect. They're looking for a man who goes by the name Black.
"We know who the intended victim of the firebombing actually was. Although, the suspects actually fire bombed the wrong location," said David Bebout, Metro police department.
On the night of the crime the suspect was wearing a tank top and shorts. Police said he ran from the scene and jumped into a silver car.
Throneberry and Roberts hope police catch him soon.
"I feel now that I can't sleep at night. I don't feel safe in my own house," said Roberts.
