NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Thursday night, the Nashville Convention Center was the place to be for business leaders and job seekers.
The Nashville Chamber of Commerce and 14 other local chambers sponsored the 6th Annual Regional Business after Hours networking event.
Members from 165 local companies were present.
"You bring this many businesses into one place, nothing but good can come out of it,” Stephanie Pepper, event coordinator.
More than 1,300 people turned out. Many of those who attended were job seekers.
"I mean everybody is out looking. So that's why we're all here," said job seeker Robin Adkins.
The Columbia resident lost her administrative job in April.
"It's just really hard,” said Adkins about her job search. “I've probably submitted 300 resumes."
Thursday's event gave the Columbia woman a reason to be optimistic.
"Hopefully I'll go home maybe get a phone call in a day or two,” said Adkins.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics said there are currently about 2.5 million job openings across the country. There are also about 16 million unemployed workers.
