NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Nashville's Hard Rock Café is hiring. Hundreds of job seekers are expected to line up at the Musicians Hall of Fame on Thursday for the company's final job fair.
Jim McGonagle, general manager of Nashville's Café on Lower Broadway, admits the Florida based company is not exactly targeting a conservative workforce.
"Our brand is one that we are irreverent, we are out there," said McGonagle. "We do things that are different than most companies, and that we've lasted 38 years doing the same thing."
An estimated 400 people lined up for the bigger part of the day Wednesday, though only 35 positions exist. The restaurant is looking to hire servers, cooks, retail workers, hosts and hostesses, bus boys and dishwashers.
Adam Shmueli, a 21-year-old seller of cars in Clarksville, was hired on the spot as a restaurant host; Shawna Stacy, an unemployed pastry chef, mother of one and grandmother was also snatched up. She will work as kitchen help.
"People have tattoos, more power to them; they wear earrings, more power to them," said McGonagle, referencing to the alternative looking pool of applicants. "It's our brand. It's who we are. We are rock and roll."
Store managers are in a hiring frenzy, while a few blocks away contract workers are busy working round the clock to refurbish the Hard Rock Cafe in time for a December 7 re-open date.
“New Look, New Vibe," is the business's mantra. Managers are especially excited about the second level's state of the art, live music venue and rooftop patio.
Once renovation is complete, Hard Rock will have doubled its floor space and doubled its seating capacity, which is why they are hiring new workers to complement the existing staff of 81.
"We're looking for the best of the best," said McGonagle. "We still have opportunities available right now. I would encourage people to come out again tomorrow [Thursday]."
Hard Rock Cafe's final job fair will be held Thursday, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Applicants should not go to the actual restaurant; rather go to the Musicians Hall of Fame on Sixth Avenue South, right behind the Sommet Center.
