BRENTWOOD, Tenn. - For the third year in a row, Ravenwood High School hosted the Raptor Rumble Kickball Tournament. The annual event is held to put special needs children in the spotlight.

"We really stepped up our game this year. We brought in the cheerleaders and we made spirit shakers. It brings more excitement and spirit to the games," said organizer and RHS junior Jessie Workman.

This year there were three teams who participated, including Ravenwood, Independence and Brentwood high school students.

Ryan Shelton of BHS is a peer partner. He was paired with Casey Cook and helped him through the game by showing Casey when to run or when to tag someone out.

"Learning the kids, learning who and how they are. It’s touching to see how they do this, and it puts you in check to see how good you have it," said Shelton.

RHS Support Services teacher Margaret Marotta said that the events take the entire school to put the tournament together.

"So often we only hear what is not working in the schools, and here is a great opportunity to see an entire school community come together to make a great day for some very deserving yet often overlooked classmates,” said Marotta.

At the end of the games, they also handed out awards. Next year plans are already underway to bring in the marching band to add to the excitement.
