BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Police in Bowling Green are investigating the murder of a math professor at Western Kentucky University. Police said they found the body of Professor Bettina Richmond around 11:30 p.m. Sunday.
Investigators said Richmond was found dead inside her tan-colored Honda Odessey van. Police said she died of a single injury, and it was not an accident.
"Everybody is just basically stunned," said longtime colleague John Spraker.
Her vehicle was in the parking lot of the Bowling Green Parks and Recreation building on 3rd Avenue. She had been playing racquetball there.
Professor Richmond is survived by her husband and two children. She had taught at Western Kentucky for 23 years, and her husband Tom is also a member of Western's math department.
Richmond took a leave of absence this semester and last semester to care for her ailing parents in Germany. One parent has died.
If you know who was behind what happened or if you saw Richmond on Sunday, call the Bowling Green Police Department.
