KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - The federal government is providing $32.5 million in stimulus funds to two large-scale Missouri projects looking to improve the efficiency of delivering electricity to homes and businesses.
The Department of Energy on Tuesday announced the awards, which will be matched by equal amounts of private dollars, providing a totalof $65 million.
About $24 million of the federal money is going to a five-year research project by utility Kansas City Power&Light to improve efficiency, energy storage and use of renewable energy in Kansas City's urban core. The project will cost a total of $48 million.
An additional $8.6 million in stimulus will go to Boeing Co. in St. Louis, which is developing software to help utilities improve transmission of electricity over large regions.
