Tractor Trailer Fire Causes Delays on I-40

Traffic back-up on I-40 east Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009.

NASHVILLE, Tenn.- Traffic was moving slowly on the east side of town Saturday night. Around 8:30 one lane was open allowing traffic to slip by. Earlier in the evening all eastbound lanes of traffic were at a standstill on Interstate 40 near MT. Juliet.

Traffic was being diverted at exit 221, the Old Hickory Blvd. exit in Hermitage.

A vehicle fire at Mile Marker 224 involving an 18 wheeler was to blame for the detour. Wilson County Emergency Management said the truck struck a mattress and box springs that most likely fell from another vehicle. The sparks from the box brings set the truck on fire.

The tractor trailer was hauling lemons.
