Push To Bring Hollywood Film-Making To Nashville

By Scott Arnold

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Metro Mayor Karl Dean is getting behind an event that will connect local filmmakers with top motion picture companies. The event is called Film-Com.

The April meeting at the Pinnacle Tower could launch lucrative financing and distribution deals to get movie projects off the ground.

"Without distribution, without connections to distribution, nothing happens to a film no matter how much you put into, no matter how many years you worked on it," said Andy Van Ron with Film-Com.

Directors can get a project off the ground, but have trouble finishing their product because they do not have enough cash. Then they need to get a distribution deal to get the film out there. Film-Com should be a one stop shopping event so to speak for movie makers.

"Over the last two decades, the film community has grown increasingly complex and sophisticated," said Dean.

The group called Film Nashville is behind the event. They represent more than 3,000 individuals and businesses in film & television in the Nashville region. Film-Com will happen April 13 through April 16.
