Nashville, Tenn. -  Second Harvest Food Bank raised food and money equivalent to a million meals in just 24 hours. After Wednesday's story about the food bank's dwindling donations, more volunteers than usual walked in offering their services.

Now instead of being 4 million meals short of reaching their goal of providing 7 million meals by January. Second Harvest is only three million meals short.

In November, the food bank fell about 60,000 meals short of their goal, so they were trying to make sure December did not end up the same way.

In Davidson County, those needing food was up 38 percent compared to 2008, and up 50 percent compared to the last five years.

Every dollar given helps Second Harvest make at least four meals out of it.

Second Harvest will be receiving more help this weekend from some country music stars. Tin Can Christmas will feature country stars like Daryle Singletary and Lucas Hoge.

The stars will perform at the Tin Can Christmas Sunday at 7 p.m. The goal is to provide an affordable family show and feed the homeless, hungry and less fortunate.

Tickets are $20 a person or $10 a person with a canned or boxed food item.
