Bill Gibbons has served as Shelby County District Attorney General since November 1996. He was first appointed by the governor to fill an unexpired term due to the retirement of his predecessor.
As District Attorney, Gibbons said he has made the fight against violent crime his top priority, with major emphasis on street and neighborhood violent crime caused by the deadly combination of gangs, guns, and drugs, as well as domestic violence and serious child physical and sexual abuse.

Bill Haslam served as president and director of Pilot Travel Centers for 18 years. During that time he grew the company from 800 employees to 14,000 employees. In 2003, Haslam was elected at mayor of Knoxville. As mayor, Haslam had the lowest property tax rates in 40 years.
Haslam said he has led innovative education initiatives. For example he served as the founding Chairman of the Board of Project Grad, and he provides leadership for Knox Achieves.

As Democratic Leader, Sen. Jim Kyle said he has worked with Gov. Phil Bredesen to move Tennessee forward. Kyle said he has played an instrumental role in helping the governor pass his legislative agenda since 2005.
Kyle also said his biggest legacy is his work in education - helping pass positive education reform for the past 25 years. An example being Kyle's work in reforming the Tennessee Education Lottery Scholarship.

Kim McMillan was the first woman in Tennessee history elected Majority Leader of the State House of Representatives. Impressed with her time in the house, Gov. Phil Bredesen appointed McMillan to his cabinet in 2006 as the Senior Advisor to the Governor. In 2008, McMillan returned to Clarksville to teach at Austin Peay State University.
McMillan is also a founding board member of Leadership Middle Tennessee.

Son of former Gov. Ned McWherter, Mike McWherter, own and operates a small business in Jackson, Tenn. McWherter earned his law degree from Vanderbilt University, and he is the chairman of the bank board of First State Bank. He also serves on the board of directors for Jackson Energy Authority.
McWherter said he will follow the examples of his father and Gov. Phil Bredesen by standing up for working families and applying his common-sense business experience.

Ramsey, the first Republican Senate Speaker in 140 years, has been named "The Best Lawmaker for Business in Tennessee" by Business Tennessee magazine for his success in passing pro-growth policy to improve the state's business climate.
