NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Excavation on the Music City Center site officially got underway Tuesday.
Construction crews started working at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, and blasting started at exactly 6:15 a.m.
Crews will be blasting and drilling in order to remove approximately 360,000 tons of rock and dirt from the property along Demonbreun and Fifth Avenue South.
Blasting will continue through Saturday, and traffic will be stopped near the site five minutes before each blast. There will also be several pre-blasts and all clear warning sirens before and after each blast.
Commuters can expect traffic delays six days a week for the next six months. Workers started drilling and blasting on the far side of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.
Construction of the Music City Center will affect more than 1,000 parking spots in the downtown area.
