(AP) AMARILLO, Texas – On Saturday, country star Jimmy Wayne will arrive in Amarillo, Texas - the halfway point in his walk between Nashville and Phoenix.
He left Nashville New Year's Day. He's had a few breaks for concerts around the country and then, returned each time to where he left off on his walk.
There will be a celebration at Hastings Record Store in Amarillo on Saturday. He will have traveled 977 miles in 93 days. Jimmy Wayne's walk, which he calls, "Meet Me Halfway," is to raise awareness about homeless teens.
He said many of them get too old for the foster care system and are left to fend for themselves, becoming homeless. Wayne grew up in group homes and foster care, and, for a time, he was homeless.
