Construction Begins On Historic Franklin Theater

FRANKLIN, Tenn. - After years of planning, fundraising and hard work, the Heritage Foundation and Williamson County broke ground on Franklin's historic theater.

The ceremony held on Wednesday marked the beginning of construction.

In about a year the theater's silver screen will be lit up with movies, the stage will host live music and it will be a place to host special events.

"This is the culmination of so much work, but the great news is it's also a starting point so we know in 12 months we'll be open. The citizens of Franklin, Williamson County, can all come in and enjoy the theater," said David Garrett with the Heritage Foundation.

Even though the current building had to be stripped down to the bare walls, construction crews were able to recycle some of the building materials during demolition.

The Heritage Foundation along with many generous donors teamed up with the community to raise the funds needed for the project.
