Trial Date Set In Fisk Art Collection Sale Request

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – A trial date of August 9 has been set to determine whether Fisk University has the right to sell a share of its famous Stieglitz art collection to another museum.
Fisk first asked the court for permission to sell some paintings in 2005 to raise money for the financially ailing university. A museum representing the estate of the late painter Georgia O'Keeffe, who donated the artwork, attempted to block the sale but was eventually dismissed as a plaintiff.
However, Tennessee Attorney General Bob Cooper has intervened in the case to represent the people of Tennessee's wishes to keep the collection in the state.
Fisk is currently proposing an arrangement to share the collection with the Crystal Bridges Museum in Bentonville, Arkansas.
Davidson County Chancellor Ellen Hobbs Lyle set the trial date at a Friday hearing.
