JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) – A West Tennessee man has been fatally injured in the explosion of a methamphetamine lab at a motel.
The Jackson Sun quoted Madison County Sheriff David Woolfork, who said the death of 43-year-old Jeffrey Shane Stewart of Selmer was not reported to his office until Monday morning.
Woolfork said after the incident at midday on Sunday, friends of Stewart's took him to a McNairy County hospital about 35 miles away, where he died.
Investigators were interviewing two people.
The lab explosion occurred at the Northside Motel, just north of Jackson on U.S. 45.
Larry Sturgis, who owns the business, said the motel has been converted to efficiency apartments, which rent by the week or the month.
Sturgis said Stewart rented a unit about a month ago.
