Doctors Amputate Leg Of Warren County Girl

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Doctors at Vanderbilt were forced to remove a Warren County girl's leg Tuesday in order to spare her life. A week ago Sunday, Bridget Johnson was hit by a car while riding her horse along a rural road.

Her father, Ron Johnson - a coach with the Boston Red Sox, said Bridget's left leg was severed at the knee at the scene of the incident. He said doctors re-stitched the limb and were hopeful Bridget's young body would not reject it.

The doctors had heard a heartbeat in the re-attached left leg, but the family was reluctant to be too overjoyed.

The 10-year-old was improving at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital on Tuesday, but she'll have to embrace life as an amputee.
