NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A new poll shows one candidate with a commanding lead to fill Governor Phil Bredesen's shoes next year.
The latest Rasmussen Report poll shows republican Bill Haslam with leading 59 percent to democrat Mike McWherter's 31 percent.
On Tuesday, Haslam was in the mid-state visiting with the Farmer's Co-op in LaVergne. Haslam said farmers aren't immune from the challenges facing the rest of the economy.
"These are tough economic times. They're tough for the government in terms of having enough money to fund the programs we need. And they're tough on businesses and families, and in this case farmers. So we want to talk about given those times what we can realistically do to help them," said Haslam.
Mike McWherter was also on the campaign trail in Memphis. He attended the Baptist Ministerial Alliance Meeting.
