HICKMAN, Ky. (AP) - Almost a month to the day after it closed, the Dorena-Hickman Ferry in western Kentucky expects to resume service today. The ferry was closed April 22 when floodwaters reached the top of the Kentucky landing at Hickman.

FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. (AP) - Families and friends will be meeting loved ones this week at Fort Campbell, where more soldier are returning to the post on the Kentucky-Tennessee from Afghanistan. The post says about 240 soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division's 3rd Brigade Combat Team, known as the "Rakkasans," are due home tonight. The soldiers have been in Afghanistan for nine months.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Two former officials of defunct cattle broker Eastern Livestock are set to be sentenced for their roles in a $32 million check-kiting scheme. U.S. District Judge Thomas B. Russell is set to pass sentence on Eastern Livestock founder Thomas "Tommy" Gibson and Chief Financial Officer Michael Steven McDonald today in Louisville.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - The Dalai Lama is spreading his message of non-violence and compassion to a group of Kentucky students. The Nobel laureate is scheduled to speak to middle and high school students this morning at the Kentucky Center for the Arts in Louisville.
