GREENUP, Ky. (AP) - A former school custodian in eastern Kentucky has settled a federal racial discrimination lawsuit against a school district, but won't get his job back as part of the deal. One-time custodian David Parker reached the deal with Greenup County schools on Monday. The financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed. He claimed white custodians were not reprimanded for similar performance issues as he was.
LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - A mail processing plant in Lexington is scheduled to move to Louisville and Knoxville, Tennessee in 2015. The processing center is among 82 centers nationwide that are planned for consolidation. A postal service spokesman says about 290 Lexington employees will be affected.
SEBREE, Ky. (AP) - A western Kentucky aluminum smelter and its workers have reached a new, five-year collective bargaining agreement covering about 400 hourly workers. The deal between Century Aluminum Sebree, a wholly owned subsidiary of Century Aluminum Co., and the United Steelworkers Local 9443-00 is effective through Oct. 28, 2019.
FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Forty-eight food destinations in eastern Kentucky are included in a new guidemap to promote culinary tourism. The mapguide was developed by the Appalachian Regional Commission. Sites featured include local farms, farmers' markets, farm-to-table restaurants, wineries, craft breweries, food festivals and other culinary destinations.
