Police Use Taser to Subdue Kidnap Suspect

Metro Police responded to reports of two women being held against their will around 9 p.m. in East Nashville.

Police said that 36-year-old Gary Johnson held the women against their will in a silver Nissan Sentra near Gardner's Auto Parts.

Police said Johnson forced the women to drive him around, taking him to his sister's house. The sister called police.

When police found and stopped the car, the woman in the passenger seat was able to escape, and run back to police.

Police said Johnson threatened the driver, placing his arm around her neck and threatening police. When Johnson did not respond to any police orders, an officer crept around the side of the car, used a Taser three times.

Johnson was taken to General Hospital at Meharry. He is expected to be okay.

Johnson faces two counts of kidnapping and one count of assault as well as an outstanding warrant for aggravated burglary.

Police said Johnson knew the women and that he appeared to have been under the influence of drugs. Police await toxicology reports to determine the drug.
