Poll: Corker Up By 10

Republican candidate Bob Corker leads in the race for the Senate, according to a Reuters/Zogby poll released Thursday.

The independent poll found that Corker has a 10-point lead on his Democratic challenger U.S. Rep. Harold Ford Jr. to succeed Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist.

Corker leads with 53 percent of the vote compared to Ford with 43 percent.

Zogby International conducted the new telephone polls for Reuters for 10 key Senate races. The poll indicated that victory is "moving toward safe territory for Republicans" according to a news release from Zogby.

The Reuters/Zogby polls of 10 key Senate races were conducted Oct. 24-31, and have a target sample of 600 likely voters statewide. It has a 4-point margin of error.

In early October, the same poll showed that the race was tied.

"On the final day of Early Voting, we are very pleased that the second public poll released this week shows us leading in this race with more than 50% of the vote," said Todd Womack, Corker for Senate Communications Director, in a statement released Thursday morning. "While the trends are encouraging, there is still much work to do and our great volunteers and supporters across the state are focused on the final push to get voters to the polls and ensure that Bob Corker is elected as Tennessee's next United States Senator."
