MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Tennessee Congressman Steve Cohen said he's abandoned his idea of proposing a national lottery.
The former state senator from Memphis said he decided he'd be competing against himself if he pushed a national lottery, saying it could take money from the Tennessee state lottery he long championed.
Cohen said if there were a national lottery, fewer people might buy tickets that generate funds for scholarships and other education needs in Tennessee.
Cohen had said after his election in November that he was thinking about sponsoring a national lottery bill.
