Some consider it to be one of the most embarrassing physical imperfections we have, but it doesn't have to be. Many people are self-conscious about their thinning hair or going bald.
Some people even wear wigs while others go through hair transplants. Now, the FDA recently approved another treatment option, low-level laser therapy.
Nashville resident Joe Cook is considered a success story. In one year he went through a hair transplant using his own hair and now that hair is growing.
Dr. Dan Hale performed the hair transplant and then suggested Joe use another treatment, the low-level laser therapy.
"[The] Reason why its important is because it keeps us from having to do more and more transplants all the time," said Dr. Hale.
The tiny red laser lights affect the hair follicles.
"When they're stimulated with light it causes nutrition to go into that cell and it makes it grows faster," said Dr. Hale.
Dr. Hale doesn't promise a full head of hair, but he said the laser will help your hair grow. The patient won't feel anything with the laser treatment, but you definitely see the new hair.
Doctor Hale said the treatment is safe and there are no side effects. A take home version of the laser light is available. It looks like a hair brush and doesn't have the intensity of office laser lights so, patients must use it for a longer period of time.
