Well, this is it.

After 46 years of anchoring and reporting the news, 41 of the best right here in Nashville, it's time to say my final farewell.

This is a very happy occasion for my two beautiful daughters, my two wonderful sons in law and of course for the two greatest grandsons in the whole wide world!

But it's not without bit of sadness.

I have been so touched and honored by the hundreds of emails and phone calls expressing your fondness and best wishes and seeing so many of you wherever I go who greet me like an old friend and express the same warmth and kindness reflected in those emails and phone calls. In fact, of all the outstanding experiences I've had over the years... and there have been many... the ones I will remember and treasure the most are the messages I have had from so many of you. If a man's wealth is measured by his friends then I must be one of the richest people around. Thank you so much.

As I start Act Three, the unscripted part of my life, I am leaving a lot of friends behind; hundreds of them with whom I have worked over the past 41 years.

A lot has been said in the past few days about me being the face of NewsChannel Five. I'm not sure I buy that but let's assume it's true for a minute.

Well, I'm here to tell you a face is easy to replace. What's hard to replace is the heart and soul of an organization like NewsChannel 5.

Take a look. Here are the faces of the heart and soul of NewsChannel 5. They are the other 170 people who work here most of whom you have never seen. They are all friends of mine and I thought you should see them. They are the people who make this place what it is and while I am leaving they are not. They are the engineers who figure out how to make the latest crazy ideas we come up with work. They manage our web site and make it one of the best. They are the production department, directors, camera people, audio, They are the computer wizards who give us our graphic look, the HR people who remember all those benefits, They are the executives, salespeople and the folks who keep our building clean, fix our computers and run NewsChannel 5 Plus, the folks who have put local back into local television. They are my beloved news department with the best weather and sports around.

They, and the other hundreds with whom I have worked over the past 41 years have shared their joys, sorrows, births and deaths with me as a family would. But most of all they have given me their friendship. And for that I shall be forever thankful.

We've lost a lot of friends over the years. One was taken from us all too early.

Dana Kaye was a reporter's reporter and I still miss her. But she would be the first to tell me this story is much too long and I should move on to something else.

Well, I will move on as we all will. And no matter where life takes us on this wonderful journey, I am convinced we will all be together again.

I'll see you then.
