New Roof Placed Atop Castle Home

ARRINGTON, Tenn.- Crews installed a roof weighing 12 tons atop a private homestead shaped like a castle Friday morning.

The home is called Castle Gwynn. It is designed after castles from the 16th century. In keeping with the period, workers did not use any nails, but instead used wooden pegs to connect all joints.

Mike Freeman built Castle Gwynn over a period of years. The final plan is to have a four-tower castle area that will include a great hall.

Each year since 1986, Freeman has held a festival to celebrate the Renaissance era of England.

The Tennessee Renaissance Festival is located off Highway 96 between Franklin and Murfreesboro. The festival is accessible from I-24, I-65, and I-840.

The festival ends Monday.

A free tour of the castle first floor and grounds are included with festival admission. Tours are hosted from 12-4 p.m. each day of the festival.
