
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) - Authorities said the lone fatality in this morning's violent bus crash on Interstate 65 near the Cumberland Parkway was 71-year-old Carrie Walton of Birmingham, Ala.
The latest release from state police also said that Abraham Parker, the driver of a C & R Tour bus out of Birmingham fell asleep at the wheel. The vehicle left the roadway striking a concrete bridge support and an earthen embankment.
Walton was pronounced dead at the scene by Warren County Coroner Kevin Kirby. The driver was flown to Vanderbilt Hospital where he is listed in critical condition.
Forty-four passengers were transported to the Medical Center at Bowling Green, but two of those patients were later flown to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville where they are also listed in critical condition.
Fourteen passengers were transported to T.J. Samson Hospital in
Glasgow and all were treated and released. Six passengers were transported to Greenview Hospital in Bowling Green. There has been no report on their conditions.
