(AP) NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Former NBA player Ron Mercer surrendered to Nashville police Wednesday to face a misdemeanor assault charge.
The charges stem from a scuffle at a Nashville strip club in April.
Mercer, a Nashville native, was accused of punching a bouncer. He was released on $1,500 bond.
Mercer last played in the NBA for the New Jersey Nets who waived him in 2005. In college he was a star at Kentucky.
After being the sixth overall pick in the 1997 draft by the Boston Celtics, he was traded around the league before being hampered by injuries and cut by the Nets.
