Birds Cause Downtown Nashville Power Outage

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - More than 1,000 Nashville Electric Service customers including NewsChannel 5 were without power for several hours Wednesday night.

NES officials said that birds caused the power outage at a substation on Second Avenue in downtown Nashville. Officials said this was not the first time birds have caused this sort of problem.

Traffic lights went dark, which caused confusion among motorists on the roads.

After 9 p.m., more than 900 customers were still without power, but power was restored to affected customers by 10 p.m.

NewsChannel 5 was knocked off line for several hours. The Power Of 10, hosted by Drew Carey, will re-air on NewsChannel 5 at 1:07 a.m. Friday.
