Brooks Pharmacy Defendants Indicted

Nashville, Tenn. - A Davidson County grand jury Friday indicted three defendants including Williamson County Sheriff Ricky Headley in the joint Metro Police and Tennessee Bureau of Investigation into Brooks Pharmacy from earlier this year.

The three are accused of illegally obtaining prescription drugs and have been charged with numerous felonies and misdemeanors, according to a joint TBI and Metro police news release.

"Headley, 43, has been indicted on 17 counts of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, Class D felonies; 12 counts of possession of a controlled substance, class A misdemeanors; three counts of unlawful distribution of legend drugs, class C misdemeanors; and one count of possession of a legend drug without a prescription, a Class C misdemeanor," according to the news release.

The charges stem from a two-year investigation into Brooks Pharmacy.

Headley was arrested Jan. 31, 2007 for illegally obtaining nearly 2,000 doses of the prescription drugs Hydrocodone, Soma, and Cataflam between October 2006 and January 2007.

"It is expected that Criminal Court Judge Steve Dozier will arraign Headley in the coming weeks on the Davidson County indictment," according to the news release.

Earlier this week, a Williamson County grand jury indicted the sheriff on four counts of official misconduct.

Also indicted in this case were Charles Burton, who retired as an inspector for the pharmacy board in 1988 and former Brooks Pharmacy employee Helen Michelle Weathers.

Burton was charged with five counts of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance and five counts of possession of a controlled substance for obtaining Hydrocodone and Darvocet from Brooks Pharmacy.

Weathers was indicted on three counts for obtaining Hydrocodone by fraud; identity theft, and possession of Hydrocodone with intent to distribute.

Burton's $5,000 bond is unchanged from his January arrest. Weathers will also remain free on bond.

The case against pharmacy owner Glenn Brooks is being handled by the U.S. Attorney's office.
