Effective Monday January 7th, the CBS Network mandated that NewsChannel 5, along with all CBS affiliates across the country, air the "CBS Early Show" in its entirety between 7:00 and 8:00 AM. NewsChannel 5 had no choice but to comply.
In the past, NewsChannel 5 was able to offer a "blended" hour of local news and the "CBS Early Show" between 7:00 and 8:00 AM with great success. It was consistently the most watched local station in that hour as is the case with most NewsChannel 5 programming.
So in an effort to serve our loyal viewers, we have implemented the next best alternative. NewsChannel 5 will air a full hour of local news on NewsChannel 5+, the station's cable-only channel (channel 50). The newscast will continue to air live as it did before the CBS decision and include all of the news, weather and traffic reports for which our viewers have become accustomed. There will be no CBS portions during the program so there will be more local content than before.
We realize that only our cable viewers will have access to NewsChannel 5+, as satellite services such as Dish Network and Direct TV are under no obligation to carry our second channel. We apologize for the inconvenience, and encourage those of you who do not have cable to watch our local updates that will continue to air at 7:25 and 7:55 AM during the "CBS Early Show."
The decision by CBS does not impact our 4:30-7:00 AM local news in any way and we will continue to provide the same superior local news coverage you've come to expect.
Thank you for watching the NewsChannel 5 Network.
