COLUMBIA, Tenn. - Several teens are charged with underage drinking at the home of Columbia city judge and state Rep. Tom Dubois, according to Columbia police.
It happened on Saturday at the annual Mule Day party Dubois throws.
Police cited four teens and arrested 19-year-old Lucas Fleming for underage drinking.
The teenagers told police they drank alcohol at Dubois' home. Dubois said there was beer at the party, but he was careful about who was served.
He said everyone who consumed beer was carded and he makes sure "we don't have underage drinkers there."
"We were taking every precaution we could to make sure that didn't happen," he said.
More than 900 people attended the party.
Dubois is known for his tough stance against drunk driving and underage drinking.
"It's disappointing to see anyone underage drinking," he said, adding that he didn't see any minors drinking as described in the police report.
Fleming said he didn't get any alcohol from Dubois, but brought his own bottle of whiskey.
"They asked us if we'd been at the party at the Dubois and we said yeah. No alcohol came from Tom Dubois," Fleming said. "None of us had gotten alcohol from Tom Dubois."
Officers questioned Dubois but decided not to charge him with any crime. There's no way to know if they consumed any beer.
Police recovered an open bottle of whiskey in Fleming's pocket. It was three-quarters empty. It appears he brought some liquor to the event.
Dubois said his Mule Day party is an annual event. He said next year he will consider not serving any alcoholic beverages.
