Betty Jones of Columbia claims no one, not even the insurance companies are willing to pick up the bill for the damage to her home caused by blasting.NASHVILLE, Tenn.- A blasting company that sent massive 50-pound rocks sailing through the air is being reprimanded by the state. It won't undo the damage, but it could serve as a warning to other blasting companies that the state is cracking down.
Thomas and Associates of LaVergne, the contractor overseeing the blasting on this site is seeing some serious sanctions from the state for this October 21st incident in North Nashville.
This episode and countless blasts prior are weakening homes, shattering lives, and bringing out constructions casualties everywhere.
"I don't like war. Let alone having my neighborhood blasted," said Nina Ground, Madison homeowner. "My tile in my bathroom's cracked. All around my ceilings are cracked. This isn't settling. My doors don't close there -- they closed fine when I bought it," she continued.
Evelyn George, a North Nashville homeowner had a similar problem, "We just need help. There's a lot of people around here that need help."
Then, add to the mix Betty Jones of Columbia.
"I mean, your whole house shakes. I mean the whole house!" said Jones.
It's the result of a different company in a different location, but the same problem and thousands of dollars in damage says Betty Jones. She claims no one, not even the insurance companies are willing to pick up the bill.
"Dynamiting. They're dynamiting under my house, and they're shaking my house. And they're tearing my house up," Jones said.
Tennessee is taking note. Thomas and Associates in Nashville was slapped with a maximum, $5,000 fine, and the contractor must have supervised blasting, from this point forward.
Betty Jones of Columbia is pretty sure her blasting is coming from a nearby excavating company, not a construction site.
