NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Voters will go to the polls in less than two months to make their voice heard on the controversial English-Only amendment.
Monday night, the Metro Council officially voted to hold the special election on Jan. 22, and early voting gets underway Jan. 2.
The decision didn't come without some controversy. During Monday night's meeting, one councilman asked Eric Crafton, the driving force behind the movement, whether he'd agree to wait until the 2010 general election. Crafton refused, saying it was just a ploy to mount a campaign against the English-Only measure.
The English-Only measure would require all official business in Nashville to be done in English.
